Residential Drum-Making Retreat
Making a Drum is an act of Reclamation for a Woman's Soul, Her Heart and Body, as once, Women were the drummers! Thousands of images of ancient artefacts illustrate Women as drummers in ceremony, religion, celebration and in midwifing birth, death and all Rites in-between. It is time for us to rise up and reclaim our heritage with the creation of a dreaming, intentional and healing Drum!
We're delighted to invite you to our Residential Drum-Making Retreat in Margaret River from 4pm Thursday 13th May to 3pm Sunday 16th May 2021. Join us for a unique opportunity to create your own Bridget Drum in a nourishing, honouring, sacred space where Drums will be birthed with ceremony, song and drum beat. In the spirit of Sisterhood, we'll share our stories, our healing and our visions, and the Drum shall be the container for our sacred journeying. We will be by your side every step of the way during this initiatory experience and you will leave this retreat with a new community of Sisters, feeling 'seen' and empowered with new skills and strengths.
The Bridget Drum is a feminine drum that embodies the qualities of the Celtic Goddess Bridget and St Bridget of early Celtic Christianity. She is the Guardian of Poetry, story, healing, midwifery, and of all Women's sacred business from birthing through to the Wise Woman of Elder years. She is also our beloved Guardian of The Women's Hearth. Your Bridget Drum will be made with a 15" round hoop-pine timber frame and deer or kangaroo rawhide, with the lacing woven into a St Bridget's cross handle at the back. See images of the Bridget Drum here.
Our nest for the weekend will be the Glenbrook Country Retreat which is just 5 kilometres south of Margaret River and set on 180 acres of natural bushland adjoining state forest. Glenbrook is a cosy and homely venue that has been in the sacred care of the same family since the 1970s. It's the perfect setting for this powerful weekend. All rooms are twin-share and bathroom/toilet facilities are also shared.
